How to import your Instagram saved posts into Moodmarks
Instagram has no export button for saved posts, but it does hand them over in your data download. Here's how to bring them into a board
The recipe from last spring, the apartment you wanted to copy, the exercise you promised to try. It's all in Instagram's saved tab, sorted by nothing and searchable by nothing. Instagram doesn't let you export that tab directly, but it includes it in the download of your information. That file is all Moodmarks needs.
What you need
- Moodmarks on your iPhone.
- The Instagram app. Everything happens on your phone, no computer required.
- A little patience: Instagram prepares the file and emails you when it's ready.
Step 1: request your download from Instagram
- In Instagram, go to your profile and open the menu (☰).
- Choose Your activity → Download your information.
- Request a download of your data. When Instagram asks about the format, choose JSON.
- Confirm the request.
Choose JSON, not HTML. This is the step that matters most: Moodmarks reads Instagram's JSON file. The HTML version is meant for viewing in a browser and won't import.
Step 2: download and unzip the file
When Instagram emails you, download the file from the link. It arrives as a zip. Open it in the Files app on your iPhone, tap the zip once, and Files unpacks it into a folder.
Inside, look for a file called saved_posts.json (it's usually in a folder named saved). That's the one you'll import.
Step 3: import into Moodmarks
- Open Moodmarks. On the main screen, where all your boards are, tap the ⋯ menu at the top.
- Choose Import / Export Bookmarks.
- Under Duplicate Links, pick what happens to posts you already saved in Moodmarks: Skip, Merge or Create Copy. For a first import, Skip is the safe choice.
- Tap Choose a Bookmarks File and pick saved_posts.json.
When it's done, the summary shows how many posts were Processed, Skipped and Failed.
Where your saved posts land
Everything arrives in one board called Instagram Saved. Each post comes in as a link that opens the original on Instagram, so the video still plays and the caption is still there.
Instagram's own collections inside the saved tab don't carry over, so the board starts as one pile. That's the next step.
Turn the pile into boards that mean something
The saved tab failed because it never asked why you saved something. Moodmarks does it the other way around: a board is a project. Go through Instagram Saved and move each post to the board it belongs to (Recipes, the trip, the renovation) and add three words you'll search for later. We explained the method in how to save recipes from Instagram so you find them again.
From here on, skip the saved tab. Share the post to Moodmarks from Instagram's share button and it goes straight to the right board. More on that in how to save links on your iPhone.
